HOW DOES EXCESSIVE SWEATING TREATMENT WORK?

Botulinum Toxin injections are used to block the nerve signals responsible for sweating, temporarily stopping the sweat glands from producing too much sweat. Hyperhydrosis is a medical condition resulting in excessive sweating regardless of the environment (hot or cold) and can occur without any triggers. It can be embarrassing and uncomfortable for a lot of people whom suffer from it.

The treatment is not a cure it is a solution to reduce the excessive sweating and make it more manageable on a daily basis, the aim of the treatment is to reduce the excessive sweating by 50%. It can take a full 2-4 weeks for the anti- wrinkle injections to take effect and may last 4-9 months as the nerves regenerate. The results may vary dependent on the person.

THE PROCESS

1. Consultation

  • Assessment: During the initial consultation with Beautify Me to discuss discuss your symptoms, treatment goals.

    During this time your medical history, allergies, and current management of the condition will be  discussed.

  • Evaluation: Examination of the affected areas commonly the underarms, to determine the severity of hyperhidrosis and suitability for botulinum toxin treatment.

  • Discussion of Expectations: Explanation of how the treatment works, expected outcomes, potential side effects, and the number of sessions required.

     

2. Preparation

To reduce the risk of bruising we recommend avoiding non prescribed medications that may effect this. E.g aspirin, ibuprofen, high dose vitamin C/ Fish oils. Consuming alcohol 24 hours -72 hours.  Trim/shave the underarms 24 hours prior to treatments, avoid wearing any deodorant or anti-perspirant on the day of treatment, wear a loose top or singlet top to the treatment. This will allow ease of access to the underarm area.

Starch-iodine test. The starch-iodine test is used to identify areas of excessive sweating. First, the underarm is  cleaned and skin is dried.  Iodine solution is applied to the  skin and allowed it dry. Once dry,  starch powder is applied. When the person sweats, areas of excessive sweating will turn blue-black due to the reaction between the sweat, iodine, and starch. This is a simple method used to detect areas of excessive sweating.

3. Injection Procedure

  • Cleansing: The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed to prevent infection.

  • Marking: The  treatment are will be marked out using a  may use a marker to identify the precise injection sites, typically spaced 1-2 cm apart within the affected area.

  • Injection: Using a fine needle, small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected just below the skin into the sweat glands. The number of injections depends on the size of the treatment area.

  • Duration: The entire injection process usually takes about 20-30 minutes.

4. Post-Treatment Care

  • Immediate Aftercare: Application of a soothing cream or cold compress to reduce any immediate swelling or discomfort.

  • Avoidance: Instructions to avoid touching or massaging the treated area, strenuous exercise, hot baths, and saunas for the next 24-48 hours

  • Observation: Monitoring for any adverse reactions, such as localized pain, bruising, or temporary muscle weakness.

 

5. Recovery and Results

  • Downtime: Minimal to no downtime; most patients can resume normal activities immediately.

  • Side Effects: Mild side effects like redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites are possible but typically resolve within a few days.

  • Results: Reduction in sweating can be observed within a few days, with full effects usually apparent within 1-2 weeks. The results typically last 4-9 months, after which repeat treatments may be necessary.

 

6. Maintenance

  • Follow-Up Sessions: Regular follow-up appointments to assess the effectiveness of the treatment and plan subsequent sessions as needed.

  • Longevity: Maintenance treatments are generally required every 4-6 months to sustain the reduced sweating.

  • Lifestyle Adjustments: Additional recommendations for managing hyperhidrosis may include lifestyle adjustments and using specialized antiperspirants.
